Nancy Nowacek
Fieldwork, 2018
Nancy Nowacek is a socially-engaged artist who employs social form, improvisation, and visual communication to activate social change. Her artistic practice is framed through flows of power, subjectivity, and the persistent question of the present time. The complex social issues that comprise her research include New York City waterways and climate change, mental health, and aging and ageism. Her research output assumes multiple forms: traditional art objects, choreography, participatory performances, curation, curriculum, and writing. She is an Associate Professor of Visual Art and Technology at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey and she is currently a Corrina Mehiel Fellow with Mel Chin's SOURCE Studio.
