The story of Freshkills Park invites us to reflect on the causes of past environmental challenges and the future of spaces once considered irredeemable.
An exhibition featuring artists operating at the intersections of art, ecology, and technology
Sound the Mound
Sound the Mound is a collaborative initiative led by John Roach and Andrew Shea of Parsons School of Design, in partnership with Freshkills Park, Arable Labs, and Gaynor McCown Expeditionary Learning School. The project combines art, technology, and education to address human-made environmental challenges. It features an installation that sonifies ecology, a high school curriculum focused on waste and sustainability, and public exhibitions.
Freshkills Park: Field R/D
Freshkills Park: Field R/D was an expansive art-research and experimental residency program that was organized by artist/curator Dylan Gauthier and Mariel Villeré from 2017-2019. Invited participants created original and site-specific work in visual and performing arts, written word, architecture, pedagogy, and multimedia, which is archived at freshkillspark.art.
